Our German & Dutch Roots:


The story of our GERMAN Ancestors, SCHMID FAMILY, in America begins with the Schmid siblings from Winzeln, Württemberg, Germany, Joseph, our Great Great Grandfather age 18, Benedikt age 15, and Maria (Mary) age 20, who emigrated from Germany in 1848.  It is believed that Joseph sailed for New York from port of Port of Havre, Bremen, Germany on The Tarquin, in June 1848.  It is believed that Benedict and Mary followed in November aboard The Admiral, also from Havre to New York.  Unverified.


Our DUTCH ancestors, VOS FAMILY, emmitraged from Limburg, Netherlands in 1863, They sailed aboard The Germania of Bremen (steam ship); Port of Departure:  Antwerp, Belgium, 22 Apr 1863; Port of Arrival:  New York; Arrival Date:  1 May 1863; Destination:  St. Paul, Minnesota.   Peter Johann Sr VOS]  age 54, Occupation:  Farmer, landsman, agriculturist.  Wife, Anna 44.  Children: Peter 25 (1837), Maria 24 (1839), Anton 20 (1842), Gertrude 13 (1848), Agnes 9 (1853), Johannes 7 (1855), Leonard 6, Peter 1 (Reinhard).   


Our PRUSSIAN ancestors THOME & LENERTZ FAMILIES were from Rheinland, Preußen, Germany,  John Peter THOME served in the Prussian Military Service while in Germany.  He immigrated to America in 1882, and Barbara LENERTZ immigrated in 1883 

John Peter THOME and Barbara LENERTZ married on 6 Nov 1883 in Avon, Stearns, Minnesota

Children: Peter THOME (1885-1970), Mary K THOME Machtemes (1886-1956), Catherine Elizabeth THOME Schmid (1888 - 1981), Louise THOME Omann (1890-1980), Michael A THOME (1891-1938), Anna THOME Carmody (1893-1994), Catharina aka Katherine 'Katie' THOME Mergen (1895-1973).  and Baby Thome, who died as an infant?  (no information)
